About Therapy

  • Individual Therapy

    · 15-20 minute initial consultation: Free of charge

In a consultation we'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, how I might help, answer any questions, and get a general sense of each other. Schedule a consultation.

    · 50-55 minute session: $150

Sessions are generally weekly or every other week. I have found that this consistency allows us to build upon previous sessions and supports more helpful/effective therapy.

  • I aim to make therapy accessible, which is why I try to work with a number of insurances. The insurances I can work with may differ slightly depending on the state you are in. Please check below.

    Oregon

-Oregon Medicaid: Health Share, Trillium and Open Card

    -Aetna

    -Cigna

    Pennsylvania

    -Aetna

    -Cigna

    -Quest

-Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

I can also provide a superbill (a receipt for services). By submitting a superbill you may be able to receive partial reimbursement for therapy by your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits. Please check with your insurance provider to verify out-of-network benefits if you are considering this option, as reimbursement is the responsibility of the client

  • I maintain a small number of lower-cost spots. If a reduced rate would make it easier to engage in regular therapy, please reach out to see what I have available

  • I often have availability Monday through Thursday, mornings and afternoons.

Contact me to discuss current availability and what you need.

  • Contemplative Psychotherapy is a unique approach to talk therapy blending wisdom from buddhist practices with western psychology. It was founded in the 1970s at what was is now Naropa University in Boulder CO.

As a potential client, the main things to know are where I’m coming from and what it will be like sitting in session.

I hold the view that you are basically good- or more specifically, you have an innate capacity for clarity and compassion. Often our experiences, our hurts and traumas obscure that capacity, or make it hard to access. Thankfully awareness is always available, and the primary tool to rediscover and access that inner clarity. As we bring awareness to our difficult experiences, inevitably the path out becomes clear over time.

I also believe there is wisdom in our emotional experiences, even the unpleasant ones. Emotion conveys information. So instead of approaching therapy from a lens of getting rid of emotions, we bring curiosity to them, in order to hear what they are trying to tell us.

Admittedly, this is all very hard to do alone. It can be a lot to juggle while also dealing with everyday challenges, and it’s tricky to see our own blind spots. So this is where I come in.

Sitting in session with a contemplative therapist means there will be a fair amount of curiosity about your inner experience. And no judgement about that experience. I will aim to reflect back to you what I am hearing and noticing. I might point out patterns, and even interrupt unhelpful ones. When things get confusing I will help highlight areas of clarity.

Contemplative therapy is relational. While I hope to be of help to you, I need your help to be effective. I aim to be honest and transparent about what we are doing in therapy and if it gets unclear I invite you to ask. If it gets to be too much, or is moving in an unhelpful direction, tell me. I’ll listen. We will be working together.
